Jamie Kimmel Shelton

I am a multi-media artist from the Austin, Texas area. I have my BFA and MFA in metal-smithing, but have returned to what I do best: draw animals. I began experimenting with “drawing in metal”.  These “drawings” combined with colorful painted backgrounds satisfy the metal artist in me and allow for exploration color and texture.

Many of the artworks are of horses which are my favorite subject-not only for their form, but for their historical significance. Mankind has had a long association with the horse. From the cave paintings at Lascaux to Picasso’s “Guernica” and beyond, the horse has been featured in art and mythology all over the world.  The titles of the paintings reflect my research into the history and mythology of the world’s cultures.
